The 3nglish website update

March 25th, 2008 by CG

I’ve been working hard over the Easter holidays to get the 3nglish.co.uk website up to w3c standards. Seeing as most of the plugins made for Word press are apparently lacking in coherent coding I has a huge task on my hands.

When I started looking at the front page using the w3c validator I came up with 182 (!!!) errors. Most of these were plugins which are published through Wordpress plugin sites and they needed tweaks. I managed to reduce the number of errors down to about 20.

The left over errors were things like smilies and bad embedding code linked to various video sharing sites like Comedy Central and Liveleak. The publishers of these sites use embedding instead of objects with params or forget to self-close the params. This creates a bit of a conundrum, seeing as the publishing of these is very important to the 150+ users we get each day on the 3nglish.co.uk site.

Read the full work-log of what I did to the page here.
