WANT! - Me T-Shirt

16 September, 2008 (17:23) | Banter, Public Domain | No comments

Want!

The world does rotate around me.
Although we ’say’ we can see the world from another person’s perspective, it’s not really true, because it’s still from our own seing it from someone elses - you know what I mean. So even if I were in a room full of people wearing the same t-shirt the statement would still be true. I die - and MY whole world dies too.

Anyways, get one from here: bytelove.com

Cats Need Homes

18 June, 2008 (15:10) | Banter, News, Quick Dig | No comments

kittiesneedhomesI am currently catless because my baby is back in Holland being quarantined by my Mother-in-Law, which is both good news and bad news. The good news is that Boeffie, my kitty, has now free reign over a very large garden in the countryside where she can climb trees and catch creatures. Bad news is that I can’t offer her the same joy back here in England so it would be cruel to bring her here - thus I feel I have lost ownership over Boeffie :(

Anyway, because I am living back with my parents and am far from being able to move out I am unable to get a cat here - all thanks to Bill Oddie and his obsession with birds and such. My Dad is an avid fan of all creatures great and small, (bar cats), and has taken the advice of Mr Oddie whom says that cats are killing creatures left right and centre. It’s soooo not fair considering we domesticated cats in the first place and it is our duty to make sure they have happy homes. I’m sure the RSPCA is not too happy with all the cats now being left out in the cold.

To this end, I’m going to totally ignore Bill and his ‘words of wisdom’ and paste a few links for Kitties who need homes, because if no one has them only two things can happen; the RSPCA run out of money FAST or the Kitties will get the chop - BE KILLED!
The first link I have provided covers the North of Middlesex, but I have also included a link for the RSPCA in general.
Please think! Get a Cat.

Real Car Sharing

7 May, 2008 (14:56) | Banter, Ideas | No comments

Whilst waiting for the bus I happened upon an idea.

Why not sell cars at two prices: 1 for people who want to car-hog all day long and a discounted price to those who would be willing to pick people up.

The people who’d opted to pick people up subscribe to a scheme where they have a chip put in their car linked to a SatNav. When starting their journey they type in their destination and the route they intend to go.

Pedestrians also subscribe to the scheme and have a chip on a card which they keep in their pocket - that too can be programmed (via computer at home) which also has intended destination, but not route as this is irrelevant.
When the Subscribed car drives along it’s route it notifies of pedestrians standing at bus stops up ahead and prompts the driver to pick that person up if the destination of the pedestrian matches that of either the route or destination of the car driver.

Once the car has picked up 3 passengers, or more depending on your car insurance, the SatNav will not alert the driver until a seat becomes vacant.

Finally, for each passenger the driver picked up they are either rewarded points which they can spend at shops or get a discount on their car insurance.

Both pedestrians and Drivers must be vetted before they can enter the scheme to avoid any criminal intent on either part.

Controlling the documents, man!

30 April, 2008 (21:34) | Banter, News | No comments

I am almost nearing the end of my first month of work for Imtech Meica, “one of the largest mechanical and electrical services contractors operating within the London and South East region”, as a Document Controller.

This job is quite different from my last one working on Heathrow’s Terminal 5, which was my very first DC appointment, but I’m finding it way more interesting because I have much more to learn.

On T5 there was 1 Document Control system: Documentum. We all had to eat, live and breathe Documentum no matter which company we were employed by. In this job, however, I have to learn whatever the ‘client’ uses and as there are many jobs and clients there are many DCM systems.
So far I’ve been exposed to three: Asite, 4Projects and BIW for ISG, and although they’re all pretty much the same they’re NOT Documentum - who, by the way, are now owned by EMC - something which happened while I was away.

One of the main differences between these systems is that with Documentum you couldn’t go wrong; ergo it did most of the legwork all you had to do was enter some choice bits of information.
With Asite, 4Projects and BIW you can enter anything you like, whether it be the right or wrong bit of information, and they [the DCM's] will pretty much accept anything. This, if you know what I mean, can be most troubling as everyone either knows what the numbering system is or they don’t and if they don’t you end up with a whole lot of useless, or incorrect information which then gets rejected.
Documentum never let you make such faux pas, so long as you had strict guidelines programmed into it.

Anyways, I’m enjoying my new appointment because I work with the Design Team; caddies and engineers who are all individually funky and seem to make the day go quickly, sometimes too quickly - not that I’ve nothing else to do but I’m living back with my parents until I can find a place to rent, so going back to my childhood home every night is not something I always look forward too. Still, I will hopefully be moving out soon and all will be well.

This is Gedye, over and out.

PS1: I should get paid for plugging all these companies!
PS2: My hubby now works for Kodime and is very proud to do so.
PS3: <—– I still haven’t bought one yet :(
