Nothing Much New
Since I’ve nothing good to post I have decided to babble a bit, so here goes.
After watching vast amounts of TV here in the UK I’ve come to the conclusion that there is really no one looking out for the welfare of UK citizens.
This country is in crisis in many regards; people are being killed on a daily basis, credit card firms have no intention on stopping people in debt from spiralling further into the depths of even more debt, and finally thousands of schools are giving up trying to teach our kids better morals because half of an average class don’t / can’t understand the teacher as English is not their first or in some cases their second language.
My mother devotes a little of her time each week to help the local school by assisting their reading initiative, which is all good and well, but often she comes home with stories of children not getting support from their parents when it comes to reading at home.
Recently our next door neighbour has converted a 3 bed home into flats without consulting the council - which is always the way, but this time we have been sent a letter asking if we object this this project. I shall not go into the opinions of my family as we are still undecided about the project, however I know from past experience that even if we do object to it our local council will probably do nothing and are sending out letters becuase THEY HAVE TOO.
On top of that our road for quite some time has been used as a short-cut for lorries and heavy goods vehicles which is not good as our road is long but narrow and barely provides the status of a B road let alone that of an A road.
Parking is also a problem because so many houses down our road have an average of 2 cars per household but no off-street parking. Some houses, naming no numbers, have up to 5 cars even though the occupancy of the home totals 2 adults. We have been in contact with the council about this regularly over the past 15 or so years but with no results.
Once my mother phoned the council, after sending a few letters with ideas, to find out what could be done, the guy on the other end of the phone said in not so blunter way that it would take an actual death for them to even consider the situation.
Mother, being a woman of good humour, suggested that I give my life as a martyr to the cause, and although she is joking I have considered this.
Alas I don’t think that even my death would rouse the council. What on earth are we paying our taxes for I ask.
Finally (I wish) our main political parties; Conservatives, Lib Dems and Labour are, insistent on blaming each other for the utter fook-ups happening in the UK. Can’t they see that instead of slagging each other off like immature school girls they should work together and sort this ugly country out once and for all. Listening to parliament on Radio 4 is like listening to bickering kiddies in play school.
It’s all too ghey in my opinion.
