Automatic Seat Release

25 July, 2007 (00:53) | Ideas

I’ve just had a great idea that will once and for all put an end to the age old problem of blokes leaving the loo seat up.

Click here to see all elements used in making this wonderous invention.
Basically what happens is that when you lift both the lid and the seat of the loo it gets clipped to a time-release clip attached to the wall. This clip will automatically release bot seat and lid (I guess you could set the time period yourself but I think 5 mins. should do it). They both then release putting a little pressure on the steel bar which then gets a signal to rotate the bar slowly downward. This could possibly be a spring-mounted device that winds up when you lift the lid/seat up, or it could be pure electronics.
As the bar rotates down (or outward if you’re being picky) it slowly guids both seat and lid to it’s down position.
Only problem I can see with this design is that larger people may find that their hip fat will find it’s way to resting on the steel tube to the rear of the loo when it’s in a down position.
Oh and another problem is how will the lid open with the seat remaining in a downwards position… well I’ll get back to you with that as inserting holes in the lid will comprimise cleanlyness.
If you get any ideas, let me know in the form of a comment which can be left at the top of each page.
